Ayurveda for Nursing Mothers: Shatavari Recipes to Boost Milk Supply

Ayurveda for Nursing Mothers: Shatavari Recipes to Boost Milk Supply

When a baby has a healthy appetite but the mother experiences low milk supply, Ayurveda offers several natural recipes to support lactation. These methods use herbs and wholesome ingredients that stimulate milk production and support maternal energy.

Shatavari Recipes

  1. Shatavari Kalpa
  • Mix Shatavari with ghee (clarified butter) and unrefined brown sugar in a pan.
  • Take 1 teaspoon of the mixture two or three times a day, dissolved in a cup of warm milk.
  • This creates an effective Ayurvedic blend to support breastfeeding.
  1. Almond Milk with Shatavari
  • Soak 10 almonds overnight.
  • In the morning, peel the almonds and blend them with a cup of warm water or milk.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of honey or sugar and a pinch of ginger, cardamom, and saffron.
  • Drink twice daily to support lactation.
  1. Pure Shatavari
  • You can also use pure Shatavari extract in capsule or powder form, following the guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner.

These natural methods help support the mother, stimulate milk production, and provide energy and nutrients for both mother and baby.

Tips adapted from Dr. Vasant Lad’s book – “Ayurveda: The Science of Self-Healing”.
